Salem: D.S. Shashaank of Chennai and R. Bharathi of Anna Nagar Chess Academy, Chennai emerged the boys’ and girls’ champions in the Tamil Nadu State sub-junior chess championship here on Saturday. A. Nagaraajuna of Sivakasi held Shashaank to a draw in the final round, while Ramnath Bhuvanesh pulled off an interesting win over co-leader Tejas Ravichandran. The duo finished their engagements with 8.5 points each. However, Shashaank with a better progressive score was declared the winner. In the girls’ section, Bharathi scored a comfortable win over R. Visalatchi of Sivakasi for the title. Final standings: Boys: 1. D. Shashaank (Chn) 8.5; 2. Ramnath Bhuvanesh (Chn) 8.5; 3. N. Surendran (BCA) 8; 4. P. Lokesh (Chn) 8; 5.
