KOCHI: Lawyers’ Action Committee on Chittur Incident informs that it has suspended protest action by lawyers including State-wide boycott of adalats after assurances from the three-judge committee appointed by High Court that it will make a comprehensive enquiry into the Chittur incident in which the Chittur Magistrate sent a lawyer to jail. The Chittur magistrate initiated criminal proceedings against a lawyer whose client, accused in an abkari case, escaped court custody on April 13. The lawyer was arrested but denied bail by the magistrate. He spent eight days at the Alathur jail following which the bar associations and lawyers’ fora in Kerala gave a call to boycott Lok Adalats and programmes in which judges participated. The State-level meet on July 14 will go ahead as scheduled, said a press release here.
