KOCHI: The Kochi branch of the Indian Medical Association and members of the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society of India, Kochi chapter, held a march on Sunday to create awareness against female foeticide in connection with the Society’s Girl Child Day. Though the numbers of female foeticide in the State may be much less than the crimes happening elsewhere in the country, the doctors believed it has relevance with regard to the statistics thrown up by the 2001 census of the girl child of 0-6 years in the State. The IMA also held a function in connection with the Doctors’ Day later in which Dr. C.K. Ramachandran, former professor of Kozhikode Medical College, spoke. Senior ophthalmologist in the city K.P. Mathew was honoured on the occasion. Earlier in the day, the Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association, in a function, honoured some of their senior doctors. Dr. M.S. Boseley, who retired from Muvattupuzha Government Hospital, Dr. K.J. Jacob from Muvattupuzha Hospital and Dr. Soman Mani from Perumbavoor Government Hospital were honoured by the Association.
