Mayor inaugurates Citizen Charter office

Applicants to be paid Rs.50 per day in case of delay in services

VIJAYAWADA: Mayor Mallika Begum inaugurated the renovated Citizen Charter office at the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) here on Friday.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Ms. Begum said that some of the services were decentralised, while few of them centralised with an objective to offer more efficient services to the people. Services such as issuance of birth and death certificates, building licences, and D&O trade licences were centralised. Hence, these services would be offered only at VMC main office, she said.

Similarly, as a part of decentralisation, various taxes like property tax, cess could be paid at all the circle offices, she said adding that services with regard to water tap and Under Ground Drainage (UGD) connections were also offered at the circle offices.

Ms. Begum said that a helpdesk was started at all the Citizen Charters in the city. In addition, the working hours of Citizen Charter were revised from existing 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, to 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The decision was taken in view very few transactions between 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., she said. However, complaints on telephone number 103 would be taken as usual from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., she said adding that the applicants would be paid Rs. 50 per day in case of delay in the services.

Municipal commissioner Natarajan Gulzar, deputy Mayor Anne Prasanna and others were present.
