BJP demands purification of Rameswaram temple
Staff Reporter
RAMANATHAPURAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department conduct a purification ceremony following the reported entry of K. Hasan Ali, Ramanathapuram MLA, into the Ramanathasamy temple at Rameswaram. Mr. Ali accompanied his friend to the temple two weeks ago. The local unit of the BJP condemned the action and said the entry of the MLA, a Muslim, was against temple rules. The BJP youth wing staged an agitation at Rameswaram on Tuesday, demanding a purification puja.
K. Muralidharan, member, BJP National Council, said the HR&CE had still not performed the puja.
Senior HR&CE Department officials said in Chennai that no purification was taken up at the temple and that reports were incorrect.
