Facile win for India Cements

CHENNAI: Medium-pacer P. Amarnath and leg-spinner Shravan Krishnan took nine wickets between them as India Cements completed a facile win in an IOB-YSCA trophy cricket tournament Super League match here on Wednesday.

The other scheduled Super League matches were affected by rain, with the teams splitting points.

The scores:

IOB ‘A’ 78 in 26.1 over (P. Amarnath five for 13, Shravan Krishnan four for 20) lost to India Cements 79 for two in 19.1 overs. India Cements: 5 points, IOB: 1.

Indian Bank 116 for nine in 20 overs (M P. Rajesh 41) v Chemplast Sanmar 24 no loss in two overs, abandoned. India Bank: 2, Chemplast: 2.

Agnishwar to lead

J. Agnishwar will captain the boys’ squad and U. Aditi Malavika the girl’s squad in the Tamil Nadu team for the junior National aquatic championship in Bhopal from July 4 to 8.

Abbas posts win

Abbas (QP) came back from a frame down defeat Vijaya Kumar (SIAA) 2-1 in the Seafarer’s non-medallists snooker tournament here.

TN, Karnataka in final

AG’s Tamil Nadu and AG’s Karnataka will clash in the final of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department South Zone table tennis tournament here.

In Wednesday’s matches, Tamil Nadu defeated Kerala 3-0 while Karnataka defeated AP 3-2.

In open competition, Lathika of AG’s Karnataka and P.V. Suseela (AG’s Kerala) will contest the women’s singles final.

The tournament was inaugurated by S. Suchalatha, IA and AS, Principal Director, Regional Training Institute, Chennai.

Apoorva is champion

S. Apoorva (SSM) and M.R.S. Santhosh (St. Joseph’s) emerged the girls’ and boys’s title winners in the Kancheepuram district sub-junior chess championship. Both had finished with four points each.

The top four finishers will represent the district in the State championship to be held at Salem from July 1.

Other placings: Girls: 2. M. Nivedhitha (3); 3. B.M. Vijayalakshmi (3); 4. Aiswarya Ramesh (3).

Garnet CC in final

Garnet CC and 20th Century CC reached the final of the SICGIL Trophy cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

S. Vignesh (57) helped Garnet chase a revised target against TSC, while Venkatesan (51) and G. Murugan (53) starred in 20th Century’s win over Magnet CC.

The final will be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

The scores (semifinals):

TSC 135 for six in 26.2 overs (Sri Ram 44) lost to Garnet CC 129 for five in 23.4 overs (S. Vignesh 57). Rain-revised target 129 in 25 overs.

Magnet CC 132 for eight in 30 overs (G. Munuswamy 44) lost to 20th Century CC 137 for four in 26.2 overs (Venkatesan 51, G. Murugan 53).
