Theni qualifies

Theni: An unbeaten 60 by Arun Kumar helped host Theni defeat Sivagangai by nine wickets in the TNCA inter-district under-15 cricket tournament at TKSTT Institute ground, Koduvilapatti on Wednesday. This ensured an all-win record for Theni in the five-team ‘B’ zone league and helped it qualify for the second (knockout) stage with 20 points. However, Sivagangai also qualified for the second stage as the second team with 10 points (2 wins, 1 draw and a loss).

The scores: Sivagangai 111 for nine in 50 overs lost to Theni 112 for one in 24 overs (Arun Kumar 60 not out).

Dindigul 163 in 26 overs (Vinoth Kumar 49, Sriram five for 11) lost to Erode 166 for five in 47 overs (K. Rahul 44).

Anbarasan shines

At Nagapattinam, Anbarasan’s effort (five for 20) went in vain as Dharmapuri lost to Cuddalore by three runs in a ‘D’ zone league encounter of the TNCA under-15 inter-district cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

Cuddalore and Nagapattinam have qualified for the next stage from ‘D’ zone.

The scores:

Cuddalore 158 in 42.5 overs (Sivaprakash 36, Anbarasan five for 20) bt Dharmapuri 155 in 48.5 overs (Karthik 42, Krishnarajan three for 16, J. Pradeep three for 32).

Virudhunagar 88 in 40 overs (Sundarrajan three for five, Srivishnu three for 16) lost to Namakkal 89 for no loss in 23.1 overs (Siranjeevi 31 not out, Manikandan 31 not out).

Salem drubbed

Four goals in a row by Murthy and a hat-trick by Selvam helped Sivagangai thrash Salem 7-0 and enter the quarterfinals of the 23rd Tamil Nadu State sub-junior inter-district football championship organised by Theni District Football Association at Theni on Wednesday.

Others to enter the quarterfinals were Thiruvallur, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli.

St. Thomas in final

Helped by a fine spell of six for seven by Sudalaimuthu, St. Thomas HS beat Manthiramurthy HSS by three wickets and entered the final of the third annual ICL Trophy district-level schools cricket tournament at the Sankar HSS ground, Sankarnagar, at Tirunelveli on Wednesday.

The scores (semifinals):

Manthiramurthy HSS 81 in 20.4 overs (Sudalaimuthu six for seven) lost to St. Thomas HS 83 for seven in 14.2 overs (Marimuthu three for 28).

Ramasamy Pillai HSS, Ilanji 111 in 23.1 overs (Kaja 38, Imran four for 12) lost to Sankar HSS 112 for four in 17.1 overs (Jebin 30 not out).

Two wins for St. Britto

St. Britto HSS, Mangayarkarasi HSS and TVS HSS registered two wins each in their respective pools (four-team) league in the district-level inter-school volleyball tournament organised by Madurai YMCA at the TVS HSS ground, Madurai, on Thursday.
