NEW DELHI: K. Sasikiran came out with a fighting draw against Peter Svidler in the eighth round of the Aerosvit chess tournament at Foros, Ukraine, on Tuesday. The 67-move peace treaty was signed after the Ruy Lopez game reached an ending involving a queen and equal number of pawns for both players. With three rounds to go, Sasikiran’s tally stands at three points. Ukraine’s Vassily Ivanchuk defeated Sergei Rublevsky and joined countryman Sergey Karjakin in the lead at 5.5 points. The results (eighth round): Peter Svidler (Rus, 4) drew with K. Sasikiran (3); Sergey Karjakin (Ukr, 5.5) drew with Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (Rom, 3); Alexei Shirov (Esp, 4.5) drew with Alexander Onischuk (USA, 4); Loek van Wely (Ned, 4) bt Pavel Eljanov (Ukr, 3); Lenier Dominguez Perez (Cub, 4) drew with Dmitry Jakovenko (Rus, 4); Sergei Rublevsky (Rus, 3.5) lost to Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 5.5).
