Making a point: Jayashree Vijaykumar (right), wife of M.N. Vijayakumar, Managing Director of Mysore Lamps, with State Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi in Bangalore on Monday.
BANGALORE: Karnataka Women’s Commission has posted for hearing the case against Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi filed by Jayashree Vijaykumar to July 10, with the High Court Government Pleader H. Hanumantharayappa seeking 15 days to file objections. Complaint
Ms. Jayashree filed a complaint 10 days ago following receipt of a letter from the Government objecting to the web portal against corruption started by her. The letter stated that the portal be closed because it was started at the behest of her husband M.N. Vijayakumar, Managing Director of Mysore Lamps, who has made corruption charges against some of his colleagues. Mr. Mahishi did not appear in person for the hearing on Monday. Claim
Addressing presspersons here after the hearing, Ms. Jayashree claimed that the information on the web portal was obtained under the Right to Information Act and she had furnished their copies to the commission. She had acted as the Honorary Secretary of Right to Information Awareness Forum and could not be “denied the right to fight corruption” because she was married to an IAS officer, she said. Chairperson of the Karnataka Women’s Commission Pramila Nesargi said that as a statutory body it could only make recommendations to the Government after hearing both the sides.
