Plans to introduce new bike Working on a concept car
THE MISSION: Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, with the newly launched 220cc Pulsar DTS-FI in New Delhi on Monday.
NEW DELHI: Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) on Monday rolled out a new platform in its popular Pulsar brand — the 220 cc motorcycle Pulsar DTS Fi model. The new vehicle is priced at Rs. 81,280 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new bike clubs Bajaj’s patented DTS Fi engines, acronym for Digital Twin Spark Fuel Injection, with fuel injection technology. It expects to sell 2,000 units of Pulsar DTS Fi a month. Incidentally the new offering is the company’s fifth model in the high-end segment. The company at present sells about 45,000 units a month in the hi-end segment, cornering about 60 per cent of the space. BAL has plans to launch a new bike by September. “We will launch new motorcycle platform, which will target the 100 cc segment customers. The bike would offer additional features to the customers and would be priced at Rs. 40, 000,” BAL Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj said at a press conference here. The company, which is putting up a dedicated 50,000 units a month facility for the new bike at Aurangabad, is hopeful of exporting six lakh units in the current fiscal. On the small car project, Mr. Bajaj said, “We are experimenting with the concept of a small car but it is not a cheap car. It is a high technology car being developed through in-house research and development and seeks to redefine small cars.” Categorically ruling out that the concept car would be a competitor to the Tatas’ Rs. 1 lakh car, he said, “We are striving to be a good two-wheeler manufacturer and we have no intention of getting into something which we are not capable of... that is manufacturing of cars.” The company’s concept small car would be a distinctive product and “it will be more like a Pulsar on four-wheels,” he elaborated.
