No loss of life or property in district, says Collector
Average rainfall in district was 42.16 mm on Saturday

VISAKHAPATNAM: There were no deaths and heavy loss of property in the district due to the heavy rain experienced during the last two days, Collector Anil Kumar Singhal told reporters here on Saturday.

Three gates of the Tenneti Viswanadham Pedderu reservoir were opened and 3,000 cusecs of water was being released.

Water level reached 135.50 metres in this reservoir whose flood reserve level (FRL) was 137 mtrs. Though the water level reached 51 feet at Meghadrigedda reservoir, 10 feet less than its FRL, there was no threat to the airport, Mr. Singhal said.

The average rainfall in the district was 22.6 mm on Friday and 42.16 mm on Saturday. Dumbriguda mandal received 150 mm of rainfall on Friday while Butchayyapeta mandal experienced 121.4 mm on Saturday.

There were reports of trees falling across the road at some places in the district due to wind and rain.

But the roads were cleared and traffic was restored. Fifty seven houses were completely or partially damaged.

All the Tahsildars were told to be on alert round the clock while the medical officers were told to take all precautions to prevent outbreak of diseases, particularly in the agency area.

Three persons, including a 12-year-old girl, were killed due to rain in the district on June 21. All the three were electrocuted.

According to information reaching here late in the evening, the channel from Pedderu reservoir had breached near Veeravalli village. It was also reported that the water level in Konam reservoir was also rising and some water might be released late in the night.
