Police, RTA to inspect school buses today

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The city police and Road Transport Authority (RTA) would jointly inspect the school and college buses at Armed Reserve Police grounds located in front of Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Sunday, according to Police Commissioner C.V. Anand. Mr. Anand said that the managements must obtain ‘fitness certificates’ before putting their vehicles such as buses, mini buses and vans into use. But, of late, it was observed that many vehicles plying on the city roads were found to be in dangerous condition. Hence, it is mandatory to obtain a fitness certificate at the joint inspection, he said.

The joint inspection would be conducted from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The commissioner asked the parents not to send their wards in autos, if the number of children travelling in it was more than six. He also suggested the auto drivers should not make any arrangements such as hooks to keep the bags and tiffin carriers, as could cause accidents.
