Maharashtra dominates

Margao: Maharashtra, which won three out of four team relay events, continued to dominate the show on day three winning six golds in the 24th sub-junior National aquatics championships.

At Fatorda, in the swimming event, Maharashtra ruled the pool winning five golds, two silvers and a bronze out of the 12 events that were held on Saturday to take its tally to 10 golds, 13 silvers and six bronzes.

Karnataka, which put up a strong show on Friday, won two golds, two silvers and three bronzes to take its tally to nine golds, five silvers and six bronzes.

Bengal made its presence felt winning two golds and three bronzes, while Manipur and Kerala won one gold each.

Due to heavy rain in Goa, the diving events at the Campal swimming pool were not held.

However, unlike the first two days when Maharashtra and Karnataka set the pool ablaze along with Assam and broke as many as eight records, no records were broken on Saturday.

The results: Group III: 100m butterfly (boys): 1. K.S. Prajwal (Kar) 1:11.72s; 2. Ishan Kulkarni (Mah) 1:13.44s; 3. Dilip Yadav (UP) 1:13.72s.

Girls: 1. Vandita Dhariyal (Guj) 1:12.19s; 2. Rujuta Bhatt (Mah) 1:14.47s; 3. M.K. Chileshwari (Kar) 1:15.19s.

50m breaststroke (boys): 1. L. Mahesh (Man) 36.44s; 2. S. Ashok (AP) 38.22s; 3. Asmit Goyale (MP) 38.82s.

Girls: 1. Gauri Dessai (Mah) 40.19s; 2. Riya Francis (Ker) 40.50s; 3. Sima Manna (Ben) 41s.

50m freestyle (boys): 1. Subhadeep Das (Ben) 30.43s; 2. Sachin Kumar Maurya (UP) 30.91s; 3. L. Shreyas (Kar) 30.94s.

Girls: 1. Pratima Kollali (Kar) 31.35; 2. R. Sushimitha (TN) 31.97s; 3. Chandrima Nandy (Ben) 32.14s.

4 x 50m medley(boys): 1. Bengal (2:16.25s); 2. Maharashtra (2:19.12s); 3. Karnataka (2:19.18s).

Girls: Maharashtra (2:24.61s); 2. Karnataka (2:24.99s); 3. Bengal (2:28.66).

Group IV: 50m freestyle (boys): 1. Karan Jaising (Mah) 32.22s; 2. S.K. Adarsh Narayan (TN) 32.86s; 3. Deepak Kumar Maurya (UP) 33.34s.

Girls: 1. Reeta Francis (Ker) 33.55s; 2. Vani Sahni (Del) 33.77s; 3. Pranjali Davda (Mah) 33.84s.
