Proud moment

The declaration of October 2 as the International Day of Non-Violence by the United Nations General Assembly is welcome. It is a proud moment for every Indian as it marks the acceptance of the philosophy of truth and non-violence by the world. Gandhiji’s dictum that before taking a decision, governments must ask themselves what effect it would have on the lowest sections is more relevant today than ever before. Besides recognising the greatness of Gandhiji, the declaration also shows how important the Gandhian methods of conflict resolution are today.

Indravir Kumar,
New Delhi
