VIJAYAWADA: The long-awaited flyover (Road Over Bridge) between Milk Factory and Nainavaram will be ready in one year from now and, when completed, will be a unique one in the State with five different approaches, according to officials of the Roads & Buildings (R&B). R&B Executive Engineer P. Satish said at a press conference on Wednesday that work on the flyover would begin very soon. It was originally planned to begin the work after getting Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to lay the foundation stone during his visit to the city in April. But as the Chief Minister could not do so owing to his hectic schedule, the work was postponed for a couple of months. The Government had now asked the R&B officials to commence the construction of the flyover immediately without waiting for the laying of foundation stone. The Chief Minister would only come for the inauguration of the flyover when it was completed, the R&B official said. The contract had been awarded to B.V. Subba Reddy and Sons, who executed the Ajit Singh Nagar flyover. Technical details
Mr. Satish, who released technical details of the project, remote sensing images of the area and location of the proposed flyover with its different approaches to the media, said that an estimate of Rs.37.61 crores had been made for the project. The R&B would spend Rs. 20 crores, while the Railways would contribute the remaining Rs. 17.81 crores. The proposed flyover would have four approaches that would be constructed by the R&B, while one approach from the Wagon Workshop would be constructed by the Railways for its own use. The approach from the Gollapudi side of the city would be 449.80 metre-long, while it would be 436.2 metre-long from the Vissannapet side. A trumpet approach of a length of 240 metres had been designed to enable the traffic coming from Chittinagar and One Town to get on to the flyover. There would also be a steep and short 270-metre-long branch for the traffic bound for One Town and wanting to get off the flyover. All these approaches together would come to a length of 1,396 metres. The main flyover from the Kabela side to the Nainavaram side would be of a length of about 1,100 meters. Three of the four approaches to be constructed by the R&B would follow the international gradient norms for flyovers with a descent of 1 metre for every 40 metres.
