’S-HERTOGENBOSCH (The Netherlands): Unseeded German Michael Berrer caused the upset of the day at the Ordina Open, beating the third-seeded Argentine Guillermo Canas 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday. In the doubles, top-seeded Leander Paes and Martin Damm survived a huge scare against the unseeded French pair of Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Devilder, prevailing 6-7(1), 7-5, 13-11 in the first round. At Nottingham, the fourth-seeded pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Justin Gimelstob made a shocking first round exit, losing to British wildcards Joshua Goodall and Ross Hutchins. The Indo-American duo squandered a one-set lead to go down 7-5, 4-6, 8-10 in a match that lasted a little more than one-and-a-half hours. Meanwhile, Tim Henman’s return to form proved short-lived, as he went down 7-6(7), 3-6, 6-2 to big hitting Russian Dmitry Tursunov in the second round. Justine Henin brushed aside mis-givings about the quick annual changeover from clay to grass as she mowed down Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-1 at the Eastbourne Championships.
