MES for 50:50 seat sharing in its colleges
Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Muslim Educational Society (MES) has reached an agreement with the Government for admitting students on a 50:50 seat sharing basis in the medical colleges under it. The Karuna Medical College, Palakkad, has also signed a similar agreement.
In the Government seats, the fee will be Rs.20,000; there will be a caution deposit of Rs.2.5 lakh. Students hailing from the below poverty line (BPL) families will be exempted from paying the deposit. Ten per cent of the seats in Government quota will be set apart for Muslim candidates.
The fee in the management seats will be Rs.2.5 lakh with a deposit of Rs.5 lakh. While 15 per cent of the Government seats will be privileged seats, 15 per cent will be set aside for NRI candidates. In the management quota, the MES will seek to admit students from the rank list prepared on the basis of the entrance examination to be conducted by the association of self-financing medical colleges. If this is not possible, candidates will be taken from the rank list of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations.
The MES agreed to admit candidates to B.Ed. and BDS courses as per the agreement reached on Tuesday between the Government and the managements.
For engineering and nursing, the MES would abide by any agreement signed between the Government and the associations of the respective managements.
