KOCHI: A National-level open karate tournament will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on June 16 and 17. The event is jointly organised by the Regional Sports Centre and the Kerala chapter of the International Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Seibukan Karate Do of India as part of its 30 anniversary celebrations. Competitions for men and women and for boys and girls in five age groups (u-9, 9-11, 11-13, 13-15, 15-18) would be conducted under various weight categories. Only kata events will be conducted for u-9 children. Around 500 karatekas are expected to take part. The organisers have arranged a group training session and workshop on various aspects of the sport, including sports medicine, on June 15. — Principal Correspondent
