CHENNAI : A woman was found dead in her house in Korattur on Saturday night. Police said Venkatramana, an industrialist, residing on Lake View Garden of Seathamman Koil Street in Korattur, left for office on Saturday morning, leaving his wife Kalaiselvi (40) alone at home. Kalaiselvi did not pick her mobile phone or the landline telephone in the evening, following which Venkatramana rang up a relative residing nearby to make a check, who discovered her body. The body was sent for post-mortem. Whether any valuables were missing from the residence was yet to be ascertained, police said. Ambattur (DCP) Joshi Nirmal Kumar said no arrests had been made so far. The Korattur police have registered a case. This is the third incident of women turning soft targets in what appear to be cases of murder for gain.
Similar cases
Last month, a woman in Anna Nagar 12th Main Road was found dead in her flat when she was alone at home. Police questioned many suspects including the security personnel, but have not solved the case. Similarly, a housewife was found dead in her flat in Madipakkam when she was alone. Her daughter who returned from office in the evening found her mother lying in a pool of blood. A senior police officer said the same person may have had a hand in the three cases, as the modus operandi was almost similar. The victims were alone and the crime was committed when the women were alone. The jewels worn by the women alone were targeted, he pointed out.
