Banks to be told to install cameras

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: In view of increase in crime around banks in the city, Commissioner of Police Neelam Achuta Rao has decided to direct banks to install closed-circuit television cameras at the gate and also inside the bank premises.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gopal B. Hosur told presspersons here on Saturday that Mr. Achuta Rao was likely to pass an executive order shortly in this regard.

Officers at police stations had been directed to visit the banks in their jurisdiction and discuss security at the banks with the officials, he said.

Mr. Hosur advised the public, particularly bank customers and those carrying huge cash to offices of sub-registrar for registering properties, to be cautious as robbers might strike at such places.

He said though the police this year had arrested around 40 persons on charges of diverting the attention of bank customers and snatching their cash bags, such incidents were still occurring.
