COLOMBO: Police here on Friday claimed to have averted a "blood bath" by defusing a claymore mine weighing seven kg on a tip off from a civilian. The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said the bomb was found near a school. Military spokesman Prasad Samarasinghe said they suspect the bomb targeted STF personnel as this is one of the routes that some of those officers frequently use. Meanwhile, police claimed to have found nine dead bodies in Puttalam district on Friday. Defence Ministry said the bodies were in an unidentifiable condition. In a related development air force fighter jets pounded the "airstrip built by the LTTE" in Iranamdu in the north on Friday morning.
