Order on Katara's bail plea deferred

NEW DELHI: A local court here on Friday deferred the order on the bail plea of suspended BJP Member of Parliament Babubhai Katara, who is facing prosecution in a human trafficking case.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau deferred the order to June 12, as the Delhi Police sought time to file a written reply.The court asked the police to file the written reply by Saturday. It would hear the arguments on June 12 and is likely to announce the order the same day.

Counsel argued that Mr. Katara was no longer needed for interrogation. He also argued that since his client's passport had been impounded, Mr. Katara would not be able to escape from the country.

The court sent travel agent Mohammad Rasheed, an accused in the case, to judicial custody till July 15, following the expiry of his police custody.
