BANGALORE: From this academic year (2007-08), the Universities of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bangalore and Dharwad, will consider only the marks secured in the second year pre-university (PU) examination and a practical test conducted by each university for admission of students to undergraduate courses. P.G. Chengappa, Vice-Chancellor, UAS, Bangalore, told presspersons here on Monday that marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the Government would not be taken into account for admission to any undergraduate degree programme. These decisions were taken in a coordination committee meeting attended by Minister for Agriculture Bandeppa Kashempur and the Vice-Chancellors and officers of the UAS, Bangalore and Dharwad, held on May 29. The UAS, Bangalore, has seven teaching campuses offering eight degree courses. It offers B.Sc. degree courses in agriculture, horticulture, agri-biotechnology, forestry, agricultural marketing cooperation and sericulture and B.Tech in agricultural engineering and food science. The UAS, Bangalore, will conduct its practical test in July. Since the CET Cell was not conducting tests in subjects other than physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology, many students were being denied the opportunity of joining the UAS, Prof. Chengappa said.
Applications
In view of the changes made, the UAS, Bangalore, has extended the last date for issuing applications for undergraduate courses to June 13. The last date for submission of applications to the Registrar's office, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore, is June 16. Applications are available at the Krishi Vignana Kendras. For details contact the Registrar's office (ph: 080-23330984 or 23636826).
