BANGALORE: MEG's P.M. Shanawas (38:59s) won the men's 12km race in the K. Netkallappa Memorial road races held by the Deccan Athletic Club around the Sree Kanteerava stadium. His team-mates Vibeen D'Silva And Santosh followed in that order. Dharwad's Sidhappa spoilt MEG's sweep of the top ten places, finishing fourth. MEG coach Muralidharan was highly satisfied with his team's performance. "Shanawas has been doing really well of late and it's always a nice feeling to have nine of your runners finishing in the top ten" said the genial coach. Athletes from Shimoga and ther Alva's Moodbidri girls too made their presence felt in good numbers. The results: Men (12km): 1. Shanavas (MEG) 38:59s; 2. Vibeen D'Silva (MEG) 39:19s; 3. Santosh (MEG) 39:26s. Women (6km): 1. Devaki (Alva's, Moodbidri) 24:32s; 2. Shridevi Patil (Dharwad) 24:58s; 3. Sowmya (Alva's, Moodbidri) 25:02s. Boys (2.5km): 1. Shetteppa (S.S. Chandargi) 8:16s; 2. Mallesha (Shimoga) 8:27s; 3. Karthik Roy (Shimoga) 8:33s. Girls (2.5km): 1. Shwetha Seetharam (Shimoga) 9:32s; 2. Dhanushree (Alva's, Moodbidri) 9: 36s; 3. Shraddha Rani (S.S. Vidyanagar) 9:38s.
