THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: T.R. Balakrishnan has been elected as the interim president of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) in place of S.K. Nair who resigned last month.

Balakrishnan, who hails from Sulthan Bathery, was elected by the KCA Central Council meeting here on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Balakrishnan said that he was aware of his responsibilities as KCA president and his efforts would be on developing the infrastructure facilities in the State with emphasis on Thiruvananthapuram.

Balakrishnan said that his election was in accordance with the bylaws of the KCA which says that the Central Council has the powers to fill a vacant post subject to ratification by the general body. He said the general body of the KCA would be held later this month.

He chose to dismiss reports that the ongoing internal audit of the KCA has been shelved. He said the auditors were asked to submit the report before the central council meeting but the report has not been submitted. He said action would be taken once the report is submitted.

He also said that T.C. Mathew would be KCA's representative to the BCCI and Saji Kumar will be the chairman of the finance committee. The central council meeting also decided to finance Twenty20 tournaments conducted by clubs. It was also decided to construct cricket stadium of national standards in all districts.
