Atwal slides to tied 26th

Glenview: A poor front nine cost Arjun Atwal dearly as he slipped to the 26th spot after returning an even-par 72 in the third round of the LaSalle Bank Open at The Glen Club here.

Atwal sank in five birdies but in his quest for more, he ended up stumbling to an equal number of bogeys and dropped from his overnight tied 11th position.

The Orlando-based golfer, who had a superb 66 in the second round, is now seven-under 209.

The lead is held by the threesome of Jason Day, John Riegger and Tad Ridings, all of whom shot 68 each as they moved together from overnight third to tied first.

Atwal seemed to be playing two rounds, one before the turn and one after it.

In the first half, he bogeyed the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth and failed to fire a single birdie.

However, he was in splendid form in the back nine with five birdies and just one bogey on 12th for a 72.

Chopra tied 57th

At Dublin, a mid-round collapse saw Indian-born Swede Daniel Chopra shoot a two-over 74 and slide to the tied 57th spot after the penultimate round of the Memorial Tournament here. Chopra, who has been having a good season so far and is 73rd on the Money List, made a few uncharacteristic errors and paid the penalty for them as he slid from his overnight tied 41st position.

Chopra opened with a birdie on third, but stumbled to bogeys on sixth, eighth and 10th, which threw his challenge out of gear.

He did manage birdies on 11th and 14th, but dropped shots on the 13th and 18th holes hampered his progress.

Rod Pampling leads the pack. Aided by a superb back nine, the Australian shot a four-under 68 and took a three-shot lead over Adam Scott (72) and Sean O'Hair (69).

Randhawa recovers

At Celtic Manor, Jyoti Randhawa recovered from a poor start to return a one-under 68 and move up to the tied 29th position, while Shiv Kapur had another disappointing day as he carded a two-over 71 to slip to the tied 61st spot after the penultimate round of the Celtic Manor Wales Open here.

Randhawa's 68 took his three-day total to four-under 203, but Kapur stood one-over 208 after the disappointing show. — PTI
