HYDERABAD: The sub-junior championships for boys and girls (under-15) and the Challenger rowing Nationals will be held at the Hussain Sagar here from June 7 to 10. About 350 participants from 15 States are expected to vie for honours over a 500m course. The sub-junior Nationals have registered a marked rise in popularity, going by the increased participation over the years. The event aims at grooming youngsters for higher age groups and levels of competition. The Challenger category is for male rowers, who haven't won any medal in the Nationals, right through their career. This provides them a level playing field in the absence of elite rowers. A podium finish in this event assures a rower of entry into the elite category in which he has opportunity to make the Indian team.
