HYDERABAD: Sports Authority of India (STC, Bangalore) won the South Zone inter-STC junior boys hockey championship defeating Secunderabad STC 4-3 in the final at the Begumpet Police Stadium here on Thursday. Bangalore shot into lead in the second minute through a field goal by Bipin Thimmaiah and 15 minutes later Rafique slammed in the second goal. But, the host levelled the scores through Sampath Kumar who converted two penalty-corners in the fourth and 29th minutes. Bangalore took the lead (3-2) once again thanks to a fine goal by M.K. Muddappa in the 47th minute. Within three minutes, Muddappa was in the scoring act again and made it 4-2. Secunderabad reduced the margin through another penalty-corner conversion by Sampath who incidentally completed a hat-trick. The probables named from this event would stay back for the South Zone preparatory camp under the supervision of SAI coach T.B. Gangadhar for the all-India inter-region tournament in Bhopal from July 4 to 7. It is termed as the selection tournament to pick the SAI team for the junior Nationals to be held in Chennai from July third week.
Other results: Semifinals: Bangalore STC bt Eluru STC 3-0 (Nitin Thimmaiah 2, N.B. Aiyappa 1); Secunderabad STC bt Chennai STC 4-0 (M.A. Kranthi Kumar 2, Sandeep Raju 2).
Easy for The Hindu
The Hindu scored an 85-run win over Siasat Daily in the Avon-SBH print media cricket tournament here.
The scores: The Hindu 164 for two in 20 overs (V.G. Srimanth 65) bt Siasat Daily 79 in 18.3 overs (Venkat Parthasarathi four for nine).
Kranthi shines
Good knock by Kranti (72 not out) helped Sarojini Cricket Academy score a 10-wicket win over Daniel Cricket Academy in the fourth Paradise Persis Gold Cup cricket tournament here.
The scores: Daniel CA 99 for six lost to Sarojini CA 100 without loss (Kranti 72 not out); Sportive CA 136 for three bt Gujarati CC 133 for six.
Satyam posts win
Satyam scored a 52-run victory against Dell the first-ever indoor corporate cricket tournament for the Maytas Properties Cup at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Madhapur here.
The scores: Satyam 208 for eight bt Dell 156; HSBC 116 lost to Value Labs 119 for two; Accentura 222 for six bt Wells Fargo 112; HICC 166 for nine bt Maytas 94.
