Bangalore, Dharwad declared joint winners

BANGALORE: Bangalore and Dharwad were declared joint winners of the inter-district football tournament. Sharp showers yet again rendered the Football Stadium's turf unplayable and the match was abandoned for the second day in running.

If the final on Wednesday was gone through till half-time, on Thursday, it lasted merely 19 minutes before referee Ashok blew the long whistle after consultation with the tournament director. The teams were locked goalless at that stage.

Bangalore district will keep the trophy for the first six months, while Dharwad will do the same for the remaining period. The total prize money of Rs.15,000 for the winner and Rs.10,000 for the runner-up was pooled together and the two teams shared Rs.12,500 each.
