IHF Youth, SCR enter semifinals

Kovilpatti: The Indian Hockey Federation Youth XI and South Central Railway, Secunderabad moved into the semifinals of the second annual K.N. Subbaraj Memorial Trophy all-India hockey tournament at G.K. Stadium here on Thursday.

IHF Youth XI beat Tamil Nadu Police by two penalty corner goals. IHF Youth XI was leading 2-0 with 54 seconds to go for the final whistle, when heavy rain descended and the match was abandoned. Tamil Nadu Police conceded the match. The goals were scored by Bhupinder Pal Singh.

In the other match, Mayur and Amit scored for South Central Railway as it beat Indian Bank 2-1. Heartlin James reduced the margin for Indian Bank.

TNSP posts win

A 30th minute strike by Amarnathan helped Tamil Nadu Special Police defeat Track Totters FC, Ahmedabad 1-0 and entered the semifinals of the 42nd all-India football tournament at the USC ground, Kayalpatnam on Thursday.

Fifty share lead

As many as fifty players are leading with two points each at the end of the second round of the Kodaikanal Institute of Technology 55th Tamil Nadu State Chess Championship at Kodaikanal, on Thursday.

In the two minor upsets of the day, International Master M. Shyam Sundar of Chennai and K. Priyadharshan, a medalist in the Asian age category championships, from Sports Promotion Foundation, were held to draws by D.V. Surjeet of Kanchi and S.G. Saravana Kumar of Namakal respectively.

Easy for fancied players

All the seeded players won their first round matches easily against their opponents in the National Open chess tournament for the Blind-2007 organised by the Tamil Nadu Chess Association for the Blind at Madurai on Thursday.

As many as sixty-three players from different States are participating in the tournament.
