Prasenjit Dutta takes rapid title

NEW DELHI: Delhi champion Prasenjit Dutta topped a four-way tie on superior tie-break and won the Amity Delhi State open rapid chess title at the Amity International School, Saket, here.

Dutta, Vaibhav Suri, Jaydeep Sharma and D.S. Negi finished tied at 5.5 points from seven rounds and Dutta's progressive score of 25 points gave him the title. Suri, Sharma (23 each) and Negi (22.5) followed in that order.

The results: Seventh round: Prasenjit Dutta (5.5) drew with Sandeep Chitkara (5); Jaydeep Sharma (5.5) bt Hemant Sharma (4.5); Deepak Rai (4.5) lost to Vaibhav Suri (5.5); Prince Bajaj (4.5) lost to D. S. Negi (5.5)

Gagan Chitkara (5) bt Vaibhav Khanna (4); Vikrant Varma (4) lost to Sandeep Singh (5); Saket Kumar (3.5) lost to Dhara Gupta (4.5); Navneet Sharma (4.5) bt Pramod Sharma (3.5); Jotish Roy (3.5) lost to Sanjay Chhabra (4.5); M. Srichandra (3) lost to Jhujhar Singh (4); Harshal Shahi (3) lost to Tarun Malhotra (4); Naveen Kumar (3) lost to Nupur Suri (4); Khakhai Zou (3.5) bt Rakesh Rawat (3); Ram Gupta (2.5) lost to Akshat Aggarwal (3.5);.
