KASARAGOD: The Government has plans to start a petrochemical complex and an oil refinery in Kasaragod district to give a boost to the development of Malabar, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said. He was speaking at a function in Cheemeni on Thursday, after inaugurating an open jail there. Mr. Achuthanandan said discussions were on at various levels regarding the two projects. The Government planned to start both the ventures at Cheemeni, said Mr. Achuthanandan. The Chief Minister said the Government was taking steps to develop the Azhikkal port in Kannur district and to develop Kannur airport. Mr. Achuthanandan said when all the projects materialised the complaint of backwardness of Malabar would become history. The Chief Minister also inaugurated a photo exhibition on the former Chief Minister E.K. Nayanar organised by the EMS Study and Research Centre, Neeleswaram, at Neeleswaram Rajas High School. E.P. Jayarajan presided over the function.
