Flower named England assistant coach

Andy Flower.

London: Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower was named England's assistant cricket coach on Monday, replacing Matthew Maynard with immediate effect.

Flower has left Essex county cricket club to join new England coach Peter Moores as his deputy.

"Matthew Maynard and ECB have mutually agreed that this was the right time for Matthew to move on to a new challenge and so enable Peter Moores to select and appoint his own assistant," England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement.

Moores happy

Moores was delighted to have his number one choice as his assistant.

"Andy will bring to the support staff a wealth of international experience as well as a clear understanding of the domestic game in England and Wales.

"He has worked at the national academy for the past two seasons as a specialist batting coach and has done an excellent job. I am sure all the players will respond to his style and enjoy working with him." PTI
