Sports Reporter

THE WINNERS: Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited (Kochi), team which lifted the men's title.

Tirupur: Bharath Petroleum Corporation Limited (Kochi) and Western Railway (Mumbai) emerged the men and women's champions respectively in the CDVA Golden Jubilee Classic Polo all-India volleyball tournament at the Nanjappa HSS grounds here on Sunday night.

In the final, Indian Bank (Chennai), much to the disappointment of the home crowd, went down tamely to BPCL 18-25, 14-25, 16-25 in a shade less than an hour, while the Western Railway women bounced back brilliantly from a one-set deficit to crush Central Railway 18-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-14.

The Chennai men raised the hopes of the crowd with their gutsy show in the initial stages of the tournament, but failed to rise the occasion when it mattered the most.

In the semifinals, Indian Bank pulled off a thrilling 27-25, 14-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-7 win over Punjab Police, while BPCL faltered in the second set before overcoming ONGC (Dehradun) 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17.
