Andhra Pradesh enters super league phase

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh entered the super league of the sub-junior National girls hockey championship with an emphatic 6-0 win against Uttarakhand in the final league match at Bhopal on Monday, according to information received here. Left-in Jhansi who struck thrice, centre-forward Ashwani (1), left-extreme Rajini (1) and substitute Madhavi were the scorers for Andhra.

The other teams which qualified for the super league were defending champion Haryana and last year's runner-up Jharkhand (who were given direct entry), Uttar Pradesh, Orissa and Delhi.

Other results: Chhattisgarh bt Mumbai 3-0 (Babita Lilhare 2, Sangita Ekka), Uttaranchal bt Punjab 1-0 (Shikha Bist), Orissa bt Mizoram 5-0 (Jhumaki Lata 3, Anupama Barla, Roslin), U.P. bt Tamil Nadu 6-0 (Kavita Moriya 3, Jyoti Goswami 2, Kiran Kumari), Delhi w\o Rajasthan, Andhra bt Rajasthan 2-0 (V. Ashwani, B. Madhavi), Manipur bt Pepsu 3-0 (Nirmala 2, Bijeta ).

Century by Faiz

A century by Faiz (113, 76 balls, 13 x 4, 3 x 6) helped The Hindu score a convincing, 106-run win over Deccan Chronicle in the Avon-SBH print media cricket tournament organised by Maheshwari Cultural Club here.

The scores: Eenadu 96 lost to Times of India 100 for five.

The Hindu 221 for two (Faiz 113, Krishna Rao 45 not out) bt Deccan Chronicle 115 (Swanoop four for four).

Cognizant beats Noiuna

Cognizant recorded a three-wicket win over Niouna in the Maytas Properties first-ever indoor corporate cricket tournament at the Hi-Tex International Convention Centre here.

The scores: Value Labs 152 (Amit Chopra 40) bt Wells Faro 117.

Nipuna 217 for eight (Karthik 55, Khaled 55) lost to Cognizant 218 for seven (Vivek 91).

Live telecast

Vissa TV of Raj Networks will telecast live the India-Bangladesh cricket series, both one-dayers and the two Test matches from May 10 to May 25, with Telugu commentary, according to a press release.
