KOTTAYAM: The Dam Safety Authority on Monday held an inspection of the century-old dam at Mullaperiyar to have a closer look at the structure. The visit comes in the wake of the dropping level of water in the reservoir. Later speaking to presspersons, Authority chairman G. Sasidharan said the drop in the water level had given them a chance to inspect the lower levels of the structure which were covered when they inspected the dam on November 15, 2006 when the water level hovered round 138 ft. On Monday, the water level recorded was 108.9 ft. The damages suffered by the masonry work were visible during the inspection.
