SBT has it easy against Titanium

Principal Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: Former champion SBT scored a surprisingly easy 3-1 win over arch-rival Travancore Titanium to move into the final of the Western Union State football league at the Corporation Stadium here on Saturday.

In Tuesday's final, the bank men will take on the winner of the second semifinal between Viva Kerala and Central Excise to be played on Sunday.

The first semifinal, between the two Thiruvananthapuram teams, was a letdown. Titanium, which had played so well both in its league matches, failed to put up a decent fight against SBT, which clearly had the game under control, virtually right through the match.

The bank men took the lead in the third minute itself, when C.J. Rinil headed home a corner kick by K.M. Abdul Noushad. Only that goal separated the two teams at the interval.

In the 60th minute, however, Titanium equalised when Jacken Sebastian struck from the spot; the penalty was awarded when his teammate Ebin Rose was fouled by goalkeeper Harshal Rahman.

But just a couple of minutes later, T.V. Mohammed Harris put SBT back in the lead, volleying in a low corner kick, taken again by Noushad.

The bank men's third goal came in the injury time, when Titanium's Cleetus handled the ball inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick, which was converted by Noushad.

The Titanium goalkeeper Joby Joseph was not pleased with the decision and abused the referee for which he was shown the red card.
