Chennai: Amidst a gaggle of happy young faces, Commissioner of Chennai Police, Letika Saran, inaugurated the Chennai Port Trust National Optimist Coastal Sailing championship at the city harbour on Saturday. Ms. Saran spoke about the enthusiasm of the youngsters even while pointing out that the conditions for sailing would be tough for the budding sailors in the hottest period of the year. Soon the contestants, to shouts of encouragement from a goodly crowd, sailed into the Bay of Bengal in what was a sponsor's practice race. The main competition, restricted to the under-16 category, will begin on Sunday. The races conclude on May 11. — Special Correspondent
