India, U.S., EU should intervene, says Ranil Wickremesinghe

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A solution to the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka can be found only with the intervention of India, the U.S. and the European Union, said the former Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, here on Saturday.

Talking to journalists here, he said the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government had failed to find a solution to the issue. Mr. Wickremesinghe, who was on his way to Colombo from Dubai, said he would consult his party members and release a detailed statement about the condition of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

To a question on the attack on fishermen from Tamil Nadu, Mr. Wickremesinghe said he was not aware of the incident as he had been out of the country for more than 10 days.
