``Restore normality at Nandigram"
Special Correspondent
Kolkata:
The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal Government on Thursday to take steps for the restoration of normality in the strife-torn areas of Nandigram in Purbo Medinipur district by ensuring the protection of life and personal liberty of people there as guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice S.S. Nijjar and Justice P.C. Ghose, after scrutinising a status report submitted to it on the situation at Nandigram on behalf of the State Government, expressed, before a packed court room, its anxiety over the developments there. It directed the State Government to ensure that rations and other essential items are provided to those rendered homeless by the violence.
