NICOSIA: The Supreme Court of Cyprus on Monday rejected an appeal from 78 Turkish Cypriots who asked to exercise rights to elect their representatives in Parliament, as provided in the 1960 Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus. They made the demand two months before parliamentary elections in May 2006 by submitting 78 applications to enrol in the separate electoral list for Turkish Cypriots, reported the Cyprus News Agency. But the Supreme Court rejected their appeal, saying appellants were living in the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus and did not have the right to vote in matters concerning the Cyprus Republic. ``Concluding, the court has rejected the appeal because the appellants had, and continue to have, permanent residence in the north sector of Cyprus, which is occupied by Turkish forces,'' the court said.
