MUMBAI: A late rally helped the stock market extend gains for the fourth straight session on Wednesday that saw the Sensex advance by 81 points, thanks partly to a brief surge in shares of index-heavy Reliance Industries' that touched a new high of Rs.1,605.15. The rally was also attributed to investors shifting focus to squaring positions in April series, with operators as well as foreign institutional investors believed to be covering short positions and also rolling over to March series of the derivatives. Overcoming initial hesitancy, the Sensex moved upwards to the intra-day high of 14238.29 before ending at 14217.77, netting a rise of 81.05 points or 0.57 per cent over the previous close. The S&P CNX Nifty strengthened by 25.50 points to close at 4167.30 against 4141.80. PTI
