Madurai: Unseeded K. Sahaya Bharathi of Chennai won the men's singles title defeating fifth seed R. Arockiaraj, also of Chennai, 24-25, 25-14, 25-14 in the final of the Tamil Nadu State-ranking prize money carrom tournament organised by LIC Sports and Recreation Club at Madurai on Sunday. Arokiaraj had earlier upset top seed M. Nataraj of Coimbatore in the semifinals. S. Ganesan-T.I. Thangakumar pair from Coimbatore claimed the doubles title as their opponents M. Nataraj-S. Lenus Paulraj from Chennai conceded the match. Top seed Ilavazhagi of Chennai beat third seed R. Sharmila, also from Chennai, 25-4, 25-19 for the women's singles title. The results: Men: Singles: Final: K. Sahaya Bharathi bt R. Arockiaraj 24-25, 25-14, 25-14. Semifinals: R. Arockiaraj bt M. Nataraj 25-24, 14-25, 25-21; K. Sahaya Bharathi bt S. Ganesan (Cbe) 25-7, 25-0. Doubles: Semifinals: M. Nataraj / Lenus Paulraj bt A. Mahesh Devaraj / Dinakaran 25-21, 25-7; S. Ganesan / T.I. Thangakumar bt K. Ramesh Babu / Anandaraj 25-20, 25-12. Women: Singles: Semifinals: I. Ilavazhagi bt M. Parimala Devi 25-24, 25-1; R. Sharmila bt D. Sornalatha 25-24, 8-25, 25-18.
Hockey camp begins
About 130 boys and 70 girls attended the two-week long hockey summer coaching camp, sponsored by SDAT and organised by Vadipatti Hockey Talent Development centre, which commenced at the SAI Matriculation Higher Secondary School ground, Vadipatti near Madurai on Monday.
Hockey tournament
The tenth annual Kothaiammal memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament will be conducted by Ever Great Hockey Club at Vadipatti near Madurai from May 11 to 13. Entries close on April 30.
