BGC won 10-2 in singles and 6-0 in the doubles events. The second team of Bangalore Golf Club beat KGF's second team 8-1. Upset win for Apoorva
Apoorva Deshpande sprang the lone surprise on the first day of the KIMS-AITA Talent series tennis championship, knocking out the fifth-seeded Preethi Gokhale 8-5 in a best-of-15 game contest in the girls' under-14 singles at the Club courts here on Monday. In another interesting tie, J. Amoolya prevailed over Shwetha Samuel 8-7 while S.G. Abhinaya defeated M.P. Varsha 8-5. The other fancied players to move up were S. Preethi Ujjani, Surya Suresh and Nupur Roy Chowdhry (Tamil Nadu). In the State-ranking event for under-12 girls, Spoorthi Shivalingaiah, T. Dhruthi, J. Amoolya, Jane Jacob and Sai Haritha advanced to the second round. The main draw qualifiers: Boys: Under-18: Asad Jaffer, Luv Soda (Mah), Ravi Abhiram (TN), Mukesh Kumar, Ajinkya Powar, S.Karan, Vasanth and Jodbhir Singh. Under-14: Sumukh V. Biocon triumphs
Biocon won the Ventures Spikers Cup corporate volleyball tournament, which concluded at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium during the weekend. In the final, Biocon defeated Wipro 25-16, 19-25, 24-26, 25-17, 15-10. Fidelity defeated Aricent 21-25, 25-15, 15-9 in the Plate Cup final.
MSRIT wins title
M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) won the Dr. M.V. Jayaraman Memorial cricket tournament that concluded on Monday. In the final, MSRIT defeated RNSIT by nine runs. The scores (final): MSRIT 189 in 40 overs (Tejas Wagle 71) bt RNSIT 180 in 39.2 overs (Nikhil Kashyap 75).

Thilak Memorial defeated Universal 2-1 in a State `B' division football league match at the Football Stadium here on Monday. Karthik and Papanshil scored for the victor while Stephen netted Universal's lone goal. Earlier, Thyagu's 16th minute strike helped BHEL EPD defeat Rail Wheel Factory 1-0.
Falcon BC loses
Bangalore Sporting defeated Falcon BC 29-7 in a State Youth Championship basketball tournament boys' section match at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium outdoor courts on Monday evening. The results: Boys: Bangalore Sporting 29 (Avinash 8) bt Falcon BC 7; PPC 30 (Sharuk 9) bt YMMA 7; Southern Blues 23 (Jaysheel 10) bt Bhagawan Gulbarga 10; Bharath SU 28 (Adeendren 13) bt Creative Chitradurga 22. AITA Talent series
The Rotary Club of Mysore Midtown, in association with Nagaraj Tennis Centre, will be conducting the AITA Talent series tennis tourney for juniors (under-14 & under-16 boys and girls) at SJCE, Mysore, from April 30 to May 4. The organisers will also conduct the Karnataka State Mini junior tennis tourney for under-10 & under-12 (boys & girls) on the same dates as above for which sign-in is compulsory on April 29 between 10 a.m. to 12 noon. State-level chess
United Karnataka Chess Association is organising a three-day State-level Open chess championship for women at the State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road, Bangalore from April 27.
