Centre bans fishing by deep-sea vessels

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries on Monday banned fishing by all deep sea fishing vessels in the Exclusive Economic Zone of India.

The ban will be enforced from April 15 to May 31 (both days inclusive) along the east coast and from June 15 to July 31 (both days inclusive) along the west coast.

To protect resources

This has been done for fish breeding and to protect fisheries resources, sources said.

All maritime States and Union Territories and others have been asked to take note of the Government's decision.
