Sai Kartik shines in India's victory

NEW DELHI: Sai Kartik caught the eye with his forceful game as India outplayed New Zealand 3-0 in a Group `C' league match of the World Junior Cup Asia-Oceania under-14 tennis championship at the DLTA Complex here on Monday.

Kartik proved too good for Richard Hornby of New Zealand in the first singles, as he cruised home in just over an hour for the loss of four games.

The results: Group `A': Hong Kong bt Sri Lanka 3-0 (Kwun Ho Kong bt Stephan Martin 6-2, 6-1; Chak Ting Justin To bt Navinda De Silva 6-0, 6-1; Kwun Ho Kong & Slu Fei Lam bt Sharmal Dissanayake & Stephan Martin 6-0, 6-0).

Group `B': Uzbekistan bt Kazakhstan 3-0 (Jakhongir Jalolov bt Dinmukhammed Yessenkulov 6-1, 6-2; Sergei Shilipov bt Denis Yevseyev 6-4, 6-2; Jakhongir Jalolov & Abduvoris Saitmukhamedov bt Alexey Nesterov & Denis Yevseyev 6-4, 6-1).

Group `C': Korea bt Malaysia 3-0 (Hong Chung bt Tan Ee Zhou 6-2, 6-3; Kisu Jung bt Pearljit Bhoopindar Singh 6-0, 6-0; Hong Chung & Sukjoung Jeong bt Mersuki Mohd Assri & Tan Ee Zhou 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2); India bt New Zealand 3-0 (Sai Kartik bt Richard Hornby 6-2, 6-2; Rohit Bisht bt James Yates 6-1, 6-2; Rohit Bisht & Mohit Mayur bt Richard Hornby & Artem Vassiliev 6-1, 6-4).
