Patiala shocks Karnataka

GUNTUR: Patiala defeated defending champion Karnataka 1-0 in a pool `A' encounter with Paromjeet Singh converting the crucial penalty stroke in the 68th minute in the third junior (u-18) hockey championship at Acharya Nagarjuna University grounds here on Monday.

Mumbai team had a mixed outing, managing a draw against Uttranchal (1-1) and later bowing out to Delhi 4- 3. Tamil Nadu blanked Haryana in a pool `E' clash with Sathyarajan scoring a brace in the second half.

In a closely fought pool `F' tie, Uttar Pradesh drew with Namdhari. Balwinder Singh sounded the board in the 23rd minute for Namdhari and in the 43rd minute Vedprakash (UP) brought parity resulting in a draw.
