Mumbai: Railways outplayed Gujarat in a round-robin league match of the BCCI all-India Twenty20 tournament at the Wankhede Stadium here on Monday. Gujarat, weary due to inadequate rest after finishing its match against Orissa on Sunday night, looked incapable of dealing with the demands of the Twenty20 format. A majority of the other teams too are struggling to cope with the format. Thanks to Siddharth Trivedi and Hitesh Majmudar's mighty blows, Gujarat rallied from 68 for six at the end of the 15th over to post 115 for nine in the stipulated 20 overs. Earlier Parthiv Patel made a 22-ball 31 with five boundaries before Gujarat's innings suffered considerable setbacks because of poor execution of shots by a couple of batsmen and timely strikes by seamer Sanjib Sanyal. Railways began shakily losing Sanjay Bangar and Tejinder Pal Singh, but Shreyas Khanolkar dashed Gujarat's hopes with a powerful knock (66 not out, 33b 7x4, 4x6). Amit Pagnis contributed a useful 25 as Railways won with 38 balls to spare to earn the first points in the competition. The scores: Gujarat 115 for nine in 20 overs (Parthiv Patel 31, Bhavik Thakkar 32 not out, Sanjib Sanyal two for 36, Harvinder Singh two for 23, Shankar Rao two for 19) lost to Railways 117 for four in 13.4 overs (Amit Pagnis 25, Shreyas Khanolkar 66 not out). Sunday's match: Gujarat 114 for seven in 20 overs (Niraj Patel 48, Paresh Patel two for 28) bt Orissa 113 for seven in 20 overs (N. Behera 52, A. Makda three for 15, H. Majmudar two for 19).
