AMSU to re-launch stir against foreigners
Correspondent
IMPHAL
: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has announced that it will re-launch the anti-foreigners agitation on Tuesday, when it will observe the death anniversary of two students who were gunned down by paramilitary forces during agitation's earlier phase.
A statement said that the floodgates had been opened with the Government lifting the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, with the result that several thousands of outsiders had come into the State to reside permanently.
A recent book published by the United Committee Manipur, based on a survey, says that outsiders outnumber all the tribals put together.
The neighbouring Nagaland and Mizoram have the ILP system.
Visitors to these States have to leave within a stipulated time.
The system was lifted in Manipur to boost tourism.
