Council: repoll ordered in 52 LAC booths

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Election Commission on Friday ordered repoll in 52 booths of the local authorities constituencies (LACs) of the Legislative Council. The date for the repoll will be indicated in a day or two.

The commission's decision follows reports submitted by Chief Electoral Officers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka after inquiries into irregularities committed during the polling held recently in these constituencies involving Congress leaders and Ministers.

Out of the booths for which repoll has been ordered, 43 are from Khammam district alone. The rest are spread over seven other districts.

A total of 23 candidates are due from these constituencies to the Council which was formed recently.

Out of a total of 31 candidates to be elected from LACs, five were elected unopposed. Elections were not held in case of three other candidates from constituencies in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts due to the proposal to form Greater Hyderabad.
